Ken Lovelett, Gus Mancini and Studio Stu

2 performances – Wed. Aug. 19 at 8pm, Sun. Sept. 6 at 5:00pm

Together for more than 15 years, the ensemble performs free-crafted music morphing seamlessly from meditative drones to minimalist grooves, to avant-garde jazz, classical movements, blues and spoken word. Gus Mancini dazzles on keyboards, horns and rhythm. Ken Lovelett plays his own invention, “sound sculpture” percussion instruments, and Studio Stu completes the master ensemble performing on the Studavarious one-string bass and percussion.

Joe and Jerry offer two different and highly complementary approaches to songwriting. Joe is drawn to the theme of love (or lack of love), while Jerry is not. The common thread binding the songs of these Brooklyn-born songwriters is their desire to capture different people and moments in a way that a listener can actually feel. Area music lovers are well acquainted with Veillette and Mitnick from their work with the Phantoms, Blind Mice and the JV Squad and will appreciate this rare opportunity to hear their original songs.`

Gus Mancini talks about ODD CITY's CD Recorded Live!

Recorded Live! at Sonart Studios In Beautiful Mt.Tremper N.Y., is the essence of a band playing "FREE." Anchored by the truly unique and masterful playing of percussionist Ken Lovelett, along with guitarist extraordinaire Mark Dzuiba and master Wash-Tub bassist Studio Stu Chernoff, on his Studavarius one string bass, this ensemble goes everywhere and anywhere on a dime and back ! Brilliant spoken word from Simone Felice the originator of the Odd City energy, as well as few cuts on the cutting edge of the writings and spoken words of Banks March Banks. This c.d. is perfectly Odd! I mean that in a good way, know what I mean? Tel E Vision is really a favorite of mine to listen to, just so many fresh ideas merging into a new hybrid that respects the influence of world textures. I am truly honored to be a part of this ensemble, this musical manifestation of Odd City.
